Look at that beautiful glowing Mama-to-be!! Baby Showers are so much fun to host! Especially when it's for your best friend! I've known Nazak (Mom to be) and Niosha (Dad to be) for over 16 years now (wow do I feel old!!), and I couldn't be happier for her and her charming husband to welcome their new baby boy to their family. Their nursery theme is "Under the Sea" with an emphasis on a few of Nazak's favorite animals -- whales and turtles. So to keep with a similar theme, I thought it would be fun to do the baby shower with a "Sea Animal Sailor" theme. Filled with cute sailor sea animals and sailboats. I decided to go with shades of blue and white (like the ocean) with fun pops of her favorite color orange as the color scheme. And here is the finished product - enjoy :
Decor
As guests entered, my elephant friend (dressed to impress I might add) was there to greet them. He has a little sailor hat and an orange scarf to keep him warm. This elephant has got to be one of my favorite possessions and I will devote a whole blog post just for him at a later time. But he gets dressed up for a number of occasions at our home. #Obsessed!
Instead of bringing a greeting card, I suggested that the guests bring a children's story book and sign a small note for baby on the inside. That way you will forever have a memory of the special day and a great story to read to baby. And yes, that is a whale wicker basket -- I fell in love with him! We had some small activities for guests to do as well; like decorating a train car for baby, and writing a funny message on a diaper for Mom and Dad to be.
The Table
I decided to go with a long banquet table lined with a runner-like plethora of flowers. Each guest had an orange monogrammed pashmina shawl draped over their chair in case it got a little chilly (to match all the animals and their orange scarves). Each place setting was defined by hand-made felt boats, embroidered with each guest's name on the sail (designed and made by yours truly). I filled each boat with some candy corn (Nazak's favorite orange candy), and topped it off with a little hand-made felted sailor turtle. I love felting and hope to add custom items like this to many more events in the future! Too much fun!

Food
I put together a list of Nazak's favorite foods and POOF like magic, they all appeared! Just kidding. I had loads of help from both Grandmas-to-be, and a professional chef. We had so much good food. Some of Nazak's favs are mac-n-cheese and mini burgers and Stephanie (our fabulous chef) made it all happen. I mean, come on...look at how cute those mini burgers look?! And they were yummylicous too!

Favors
Why do only kids at birthday parties get goodie bags? I'm an adult, and I want a goodie bag, and I'm not ashamed to admit it ;). Along with the monogrammed pashminas, and felt turtle boats, I felt like we needed one more thing. One more sweet thing. Nazak is a huge fan of teas and sweet snacks that go with them. So I filled two small vials of her favorite teas (from David's Tea) and made tea bag shaped shortbread cookies that had a personalized thank you message on them :).
I hope you enjoyed the shower!! Bon Voyage ;)
